Hi, friend —
When Hannah Maude turned 40, she took a career break, not knowing what would come next. She’d spent the past two decades building a career in digital commerce, but as she sat in the in-between, she noticed something: not only did her inner passions seem to be shifting — but the world around her was changing, too.
“During that career break, I began to learn about AI,” Hannah told me in a virtual podcast studio last week. “And that was when I started to realize the impact on women and to look at it through both a women's lens, and a business lens. Do businesses really know what's about to happen? Women broadly don't know what's coming down the line."
She couldn’t get it out of her head: that so many would be impacted by a force out of their control — and soon.
This realization catalyzed her to start Fire Up Skills, an organization focused on upskilling and empowering women to become more AI-aware and AI-proficient as we transition into an AI-driven future.
Because by 2027, AI could displace around 69 million jobs globally — and it’s likely that women will be disproportionately impacted. This is due to women over-indexing in high risk industries (think retail, healthcare, and clerical roles), and because approximately 70% of clerical and administrative jobs globally are held by women.
Hannah Maude is sounding the alarm and offering a lifeline
In this episode of RemAining Human, I sit down with Hannah to discuss everything from her work with Fire Up Skills to her own career pivot to the realities of pending technological disruption. Hannah shares her framework for navigating an AI-driven career pivot and advice on how to get started — even when grappling with massive change can feel overwhelming.
Because irregardless of your gender, this conversation may be helpful for any professional feeling uncertain about technological disruption and career changes. I find a certain comfort in knowing we are all feeling the discomfort of this uncertainty.
And I find comfort knowing there are people like Hannah dedicating themselves to making it a little bit easier.
